The Tixel Treatment?
Topical numbing is not necessary as the procedure is relatively pain-free. Only a sensation of warmth is felt throughout the procedure. The tixel probe contains 81 pins which are pyramid shaped. The tixel probe is made to come in contact with the area of concern on the skin. The probe is then heated up and this thermal energy is transferred to the skin within milli seconds in a controlled manner creating micropores. This will trigger the normal wound healing process to begin and allow the skin to tighten.
As the contact made with the skin is very short; in milliseconds, the level of discomfort is significantly lower than it is for other resurfacing and tightening treatments. Patients can return home immediately after the procedure.
Results?
Most patients begin to see results even after a single treatment of tixel. However like any other tightening or scar procedures, 3-6 sessions are recommended spaced 6-8 weeks apart to obtain optimum results. Also the results obtained with tixel are much longer lasting.
Complications?
A strong sensation of warmth may be felt during the procedure. Redness/ grid marks from the probe can last for up to a week. Micro-crusting can be occasionally seen at the point of delivery of heat but will last only for 3-5 days.
The aftercare?
A mild cleanser is prescribed for a brief period of time and as always an effective moisturizer should be applied frequently for a couple of days until all the micro crusts have healed taking care not to pick at the the crusts. Make up can be applied on the very same day if the treatment performed was light or about 48-72 hours later if the treatment done was intensive.
Are the results similar to a fractional CO2 laser?
Results are similar or superior compared to other resurfacing procedure like a fractional CO2 laser (fraxel) with the added advantage of being safe even in the darker skin types. Also there is less pain, less charring and redness post procedure and a very short recovery period.
